This Bayberry candle is a gift from a friend,
On Yuletide Eve burn it down to the end.
A Bayberry candle burned down to the socket,
Brings luck to the home and wealth to the pocket.

When the first settlers arrived on our shores, every moment was one of survival. Everything was in short supply including candles. Back then, candles were made of tallow (animal fat) which tend to smoke and give off an odor which can turn rancid. It didn’t take long for the early colonists to discover that the abundant Bayberry bush had berries that would give off a waxy residue when boiled. Colonial women learned to collect and save the Bayberry wax that would rise to the surface of the water and make them into taper candles. This began the tradition of boiling the berries, only to discover a sweet smelling wax with a long clean burn. One pound of Bayberry wax requires 15 pounds of bayberries, so Bayberry candles were only burned on special occasions in colonial times. A candle made of Bayberry wax was a real treasure to the colonists who saved them for special occasions.

In more modern times, it became the tradition to burn your Bayberry candle all the way down on the holiday of your choice (Yuletide, Christmas Eve or New Years Eve) to bring blessings of abundance in the coming year. It is not known who actually came up with the traditional Bayberry candle poem, but we love it, and have illuminated our homes with Bayberry candles for years!  Carry on this beautiful tradition with our handcrafted Votives, Travel Tins, Prayer and Apothecary Jars which are 100% soy and beeswax, cotton-wicked, Reiki blessed and infused with Bayberry oil then crowned with Aventurine, Bayberry bark, Carnelian, Citrine, Clear Quartz, Peridot and Pyrite. All candles and votives are accompanied by a parchment with instructions.

Our 3 oz Bayberry Votives have approximately a 12-14 hour burn time. This is your best option for following the American tradition of burning a Bayberry candle on Yuletide or New Year's Eve! These can only be purchased in sets of three.

Our 8 oz Bayberry Travel Tins are a great alternative to glass containers, and can burn more than 30+ hours, so if you plan to burn this particular candle through the ‘eve’ of your choice, or burn it through all 3 eve’s, we suggest only lighting it for a few hours at a time, then extinguishing it so that the wick can fully dry.

We are known for our prayer jars here at Mystic Pines Candle Co. It's our most popular vessel, so we've decided to offer it in our signature Bayberry scent this holiday season! With proper wick maintenance, you can enjoy your Bayberry in our 16 oz prayer jar for more than 70+ hours!

All Mystic Pines candles are handcrafted, 100% American-grown soy and beeswax, cotton-wicked (lead-free) and hand blessed. Please note it may take up 4 to 6 business days to complete and ship your order…not the 3 days that Shopify has listed. Our candles take days and days to create, cure, label (I hand-cut and hand glue each label prayer jars…and these take time to dry) and ship to you.

HOUSEKEEPING: Candles burn best (and longest), when you allow a wax 'pool' to extend completely to the edge of the glass, otherwise your candle will tunnel straight down and the life of your candle will diminish greatly. Ceiling fans and floor fans (any type of moving air!) can also affect the way your candle burns.

LEGAL DISCLAIMER: All Mystic Pines Candle Co., candles are sold as curios only. Every soy wax item is lovingly hand-poured and hand blessed. In no way, shape, or form do we guarantee any particular outcome. You must add your own pure love and positive intention to the products in order to make them work for you!

CAUTION: Never leave a candle burning unattended. Certain candles may contain crystals and herbs that could potentially 'spark' or crack the glass. Always burn your candles, votives and tea lights on a fireproof dish when possible.
